Rock Cats Take Down RubberDucks, 4-2
|
The New Britain Rock Cats faced a tenacious opponent in Akron pitcher Walt Ashley, but still scratched out a win at Canal Park by a final score of 4-2 in 13 innings. Ashley went 5 innings and allowed 2 runs. New Britain reliever Dave Francisco was credited with the win. His record goes to 1-0. Walt Ashley took the loss for Akron. The loss drops Akron to 0-2.
New Britain won the game in part because of Tony Núñez. The first baseman ripped a 2-run home run in the top of the 13th inning to put the Rock Cats ahead, 4-2. For the game, Núñez had 1 double and 1 home run in 6 at-bats.
In postgame comments, Núñez said, "I think we gave the fans their money's worth."
