Great Lakes Jukes Past South Bend, 6-3

The Great Lakes Loons faced a tough opponent in South Bend pitcher Rodrigo Vargas, but did just enough to pull out the victory at Stanley Coveleski Regional Stadium by a final score of 6-3. Vargas went 5.1 innings and allowed no runs. Great Lakes reliever Beau Chambers was the winner. His record is now 3-0. The losing pitcher was Mike Tillman. Jarrod Lane nailed down his 24th save.
Great Lakes needed the clutch hitting of Jerry Peters to seal the deal. The third baseman swatted a 3-run home run in the top of the ninth inning to put the Loons on top, 6-3. For the game, Peters had 1 home run and 1 single in 5 at-bats.
After the game, Great Lakes manager Emilio Bonifacio applauded the team's effort. "We put some good AB's together," he said.
With the win, the Loons have a record of 62-60.
