The South Bend Cubs defeated the Great Lakes Loons, 8-6, at Stanley Coveleski Regional Stadium. Bob Lambert was a standout performer for South Bend. His 4 hits included 2 singles and 2 doubles -- this in addition to the 2 runs he scored and 2 he knocked in. Mike Tillman notched his 13th save in 17 chances. The loss makes Great Lakes 62-61.

The game was at a stalemate until left fielder Phil Lind came to bat in the bottom of the eighth. Facing Great Lakes pitcher Alfredo Lorenzo, he hit a first pitch fastball for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting South Bend on top, 7-6.

"We can always improve and get better, but we're feeling confident after that win," said Lambert.
