Lake County Sent Home with 5-1 Loss
The Lake County Captains got a superb performance from pitcher Ken Martínez, but the West Michigan Whitecaps still won the game, 5-1. Martínez threw 5.1 innings allowing 4 runs. West Michigan pitcher Mike Jensen earned the win, hiking his record to 8-3. Ken Martínez suffered the loss. The win elevated the Whitecaps to 97-31.

Chris Gibson had a big 2-run double for the Whitecaps in the bottom of the sixth inning. With West Michigan leading 2-1 and the bases loaded, he got a fastball from 24-year old right-handed pitcher Ed Makarezos and swatted a double to right. It was his 12th double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Whitecaps ahead, 4-1.

"When this team comes together and plays the way we can, we can compete with anyone," said Gibson. "I think we're going to keep proving that."
