The Mahoning Valley Scrappers put one in the win column with an opening day 6-2 triumph over the Connecticut Tigers. The crowd at Eastwood Field watched Dan Knight put on a fine performance. Mahoning Valley reliever Clint Washington picked up the win, raising his record to 1-0. Greg Carr was tagged with the loss. Kevin Dudley was credited with the save for Mahoning Valley, his 1st of the season.

Mahoning Valley third baseman Ignacio Medina helped the Scrappers go up, 2-0, in the bottom of the sixth inning. With the game tied, Medina hit a 2-run single off Connecticut pitcher Greg Carr.

"Dan did a nice job," said Scrappers manager Esteban Gonzalez.
