Riggs CAR Choice for Best Pitcher

Bert Riggs was pure poison coming out of the Hillcats bullpen in July. For his outstanding performance, he picked up the Carolina League Pitcher of the Month award.
The Lynchburg Hillcats reliever had no saves for the month with a 4-2 record and 2.84 ERA. He made no relief appearances, hurled 44.1 innings, yielded 34 hits, fanned 38 and walked 23.
Riggs's record this season is 9-and-10 with no saves and a 3.44 ERA. He has given up 134 hits in 146.2 innings with 123 strikeouts.

Myrtle Beach's McDonald Winner, CAR Best Hitter in July

It's perhaps an award he'll win many more times through his career, as at age 25 Joe McDonald has a lot of baseball ahead of him.
But for now the young Myrtle Beach Pelicans star can enjoy the numbers he put up in July, which have garnered him the nod as the Carolina League Batter of the Month.
His breakout month featured a .327 average with 6 home runs, 18 RBIs and 20 runs scored.
McDonald is hitting .259 for the season with 15 home runs, 49 RBIs and 40 runs scored. He has 56 hits in 216 at-bats and played in 67 games.

Season Ends for Bedser

The news was not unexpected, but that didn't make it easier to accept for the Frederick Keys: starting pitcher Bob Bedser is out for the year. Bedser suffered bone chips in his elbow on 07/27/2026. The team knew that the chances of seeing him return were slim to none. But today it was made official.
Bedser has posted a 2-10 record for the year with a 6.52 ERA. Teams are hitting .295 against him and he has rung up 99 strikeouts in 99.1 innings.
