Shepherd Hits 2 Roundtrippers, Lake Monsters Win, 5-3

The Vermont Lake Monsters used the hitting of first baseman Phil Shepherd to subdue the Tri-City ValleyCats, 5-3. For the game, Shepherd belted 2 home runs. He drove in 4 runs and scored twice. Tim Bell got credit for the save for Vermont. It was his 1st of the year. The defeat makes Tri-City 3-2.
Shepherd had a game-changing home run in the bottom of the eighth. On a full count fastball from Bob Boswell, he banged a 2-run home run to right-center, giving the Lake Monsters a 5-3 lead. It was the 2nd home run of the year for Shepherd.
"Put the ball in play and good things will happen," said Shepherd.
