Black Bears Handle Connecticut, Snag 7-4 Win
Pete Yates had a good game, but he could not keep the Connecticut Tigers from falling, 7-4, to the West Virginia Black Bears at Russell Diethrick Park. The Connecticut right fielder was 3 for 3 with a home run, a double, and a walk, while scoring 2 times and driving in 2 in the loss. Mike James was the winner. He's now 1-0. The loser was Joe Gibbs. With the win, West Virginia goes to 21-37, while the Tigers fall to 38-20.

With one out in the bottom of the third, Nelson Silva put West Virginia in front, 4-2, with a 2-run single. The Black Bears went on to win the ballgame.

"We put a lot of pressure on ourselves," Silva told a West Virginia Herald reporter. "Sometimes we just need to relax."
