Storm Come Up Short at High Desert, 5-4
The High Desert Mavericks defeated the Lake Elsinore Storm, 5-4, at Stater Bros. Stadium. High Desert was led by 23-year old catcher Joel Kirkpatrick, who was 1-4 with a home run, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once. High Desert pitcher Gil Burns earned the win, hiking his record to 5-2. Josh Wagner suffered the loss. High Desert is now 62-71, while Lake Elsinore is 43-90.

With High Desert trailing 3-1 in the bottom of the fifth, Kirkpatrick hit a curveball from José Morales for a 3-run home run. It was his 15th home run of the season and put the Mavericks ahead, 4-3.

"We had the game right there for the taking," said Lake Elsinore manager Chris Greene. "But we decided not to take it."
