The Great Lakes Loons had to weather a strong performance from South Bend pitcher Artie Maddox before claiming a 3-2 win in 10 innings. Maddox went 5 innings and allowed 1 run. The win went to Jarrod Lane in relief, making him now 4-6. Mike Tillman took the loss for South Bend. With this game in the books, Great Lakes is 69-64, South Bend 58-75.
The Loons got a clutch hit from designated hitter Alfredo Hernández. In the bottom of the tenth, he hit a run-scoring single to left, to win the game for the Loons.
"We had the right guys up at the right times," said South Bend manager Taylor Davis. "We just didn't cash in."
