McCarthy Lifts Orioles to 14-9 Triumph
The Baltimore (GCL) Orioles defeated the Minnesota (GCL) Twins by the score of 14-9, with the biggest share of the credit going to shortstop Jeff McCarthy. McCarthy was 3-4 with a home run, 2 singles, and a walk, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 5 for the Orioles on the day. Baltimore (GCL) reliever Dominic Burton picked up the win, raising his record to 2-0. Bob Head was tagged with the loss. The loss drops Minnesota (GCL) to 7-4.

The Twins had been locked in a 5-5 tie with the Orioles going into the bottom of the fifth inning. That changed quickly when the 19-year old center fielder Andy Soppitt came to the plate. Soppitt hit a 3-run home run on a first pitch fastball from Minnesota (GCL) hurler Joe Hale. It was Soppitt's 2nd home run of the year.

"We put a lot of pressure on ourselves," McCarthy told a Baltimore (GCL) Herald reporter. "Sometimes we just need to relax."
