Good production from designated hitter Grabiel Jimenez helped the San Francisco Giants topple the Kansas City Royals, 8-5. Jimenez was 1-2 with a home run and 2 walks. He scored 2 runs and drove in 2 for the Giants. San Francisco, at 33-16, is 6½ games up in the National League West Division.

Franly Mallen had a big bases-clearing double for the Giants in the bottom of the first inning. With San Francisco leading 1-0 and the bases loaded, he got a curveball from Scott Blewett, who is tied for 2nd in the AL in innings pitched with 66.0, and swatted a double to right. It was his 8th double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Giants ahead, 4-0.

"We maximized our offense today," said San Francisco skipper Travis Fryman. "That makes everyone's life easier."
