The Oakland (AZL) Athletics moved to within one game of the Round 2, needing 10 innings to down the Cincinnati (AZL) Reds in a shootout at Papago Park Sports Facility. Athletics shortstop Pete Johnson was 3 for 4 with 2 home runs, a walk, and was hit by a pitch, while scoring 3 and driving in 4. The victory gives the Athletics a 2-1 advantage in the best-of-5 Round 1.

With the game on the line, Ken Brown came to bat in the bottom of the tenth. And the Oakland (AZL) right fielder came through, cracking a run-scoring single off Don Dean, the Cincinnati (AZL) pitcher.

"Our team found a way to get it done," said Johnson.
