San Diego Upended, 8-6, by Washington
|
Though he had a terrific game, Jeff Young could not prevent his team, the San Diego Padres, from absorbing a loss. Washington won the game, 8-6. Young went 3 for 5 with a home run and 2 singles. He drove in 3 runs and scored once. Washington reliever Yimi Garcia picked up the win to move to 1-1. Kodi Medeiros suffered the loss. The Nationals lead the National League East Division by 5 games.
Jeremy Austin had a big bases-clearing double for the Nationals in the bottom of the fifth inning. With Washington trailing 6-4 and the bases loaded, he got a fastball from Kodi Medeiros, who signed a 2-year contract worth $3,880,000 on 12/22/2025, and swatted a double to left. It was his 15th double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Nationals ahead, 7-6.
Austin told a Washington News reporter that he was "satisfied" with the win.
