Despite a great performance by Salem starter Sam Taylor, the Myrtle Beach Pelicans defeated the Red Sox by the score of 8-5 at Salem Memorial Baseball Stadium. Taylor threw 5.1 innings allowing 3 runs, but he couldn't prevent the Pelicans from moving one game closer to the Round 2. Myrtle Beach now leads the Round 1 2-0.

Myrtle Beach used the timely hitting of Kelvin Dennis to seize the win. The second baseman stroked a 2-run single in the top of the seventh inning to put the Pelicans on top, 8-5. It was his only hit in 1 at-bat, but it was a game-changer.

"We came out aggressive," said Pelicans manager Jose Lobaton. "We came out swinging the bats."
