The Winston-Salem Dash moved to within one game of the Round 2, downing the Carolina Mudcats on the road at Grainger Stadium by a score of 4-1. Dash right-hander Tony Ayala had a strong outing. He threw 6.0 innings of 0-hit ball. The win gives the Dash a 2-0 advantage in the best-of-5 Round 1.

Winston-Salem used a well-timed hit by José Rivera to capture the win. The first baseman socked a 2-run double in the top of the first inning to put the Dash ahead, 2-0. Though it was his only hit in 3 at-bats, it was important.

Winston-Salem manager Brent Metheny praised his team's "businesslike approach."
