The South Bend Cubs are off to the Round 2 after an exciting Round 1 triumph.

South Bend downed the West Michigan Whitecaps, but needed the entire series to do so, with a 6-5 win tonight at Fifth Third Ballpark wrapping up the series 3-2.

"It's every guy in this room that made this happen. Without us all pulling in the same direction, we don't win this series," said Hugh Porter, who earned MVP honors for a standout offensive series.

Porter put up a .545 with a .565 on-base percentage in the series. He also had 0 home runs, drove in 9 runs and scored 2 runs himself.

The South Bend Cubs will play against the Clinton LumberKings in the next round. Clinton won their series against the Burlington Bees 3 games to 0. The Round 2 schedule will be announced after the Round 1 finishes.
