Marlins Solve Washington in Extra Innings
|
The Miami Marlins downed the Washington Nationals, 7-5, in 11 innings at Nationals Park. The Marlins were led by Daryl Hatfield. Hatfield was 4-5 with a home run, 3 singles, and a walk, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 2. José Domínguez was credited with the save. He has now successfully converted 1 of 1 save opportunities. With the win over Washington, the Marlins improved to 27-35.
Miami used the timely hitting of Sam Jones to seize the win. The first baseman stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the 11th inning to put the Marlins on top, 6-5. It was his only hit in 5 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
"In baseball, you have your ups and downs," said Washington manager Mark Grudzielanek. "You just try to stay level-headed the whole time."
