Riding the 5-hit performance of center fielder Phil Lind, the South Bend Cubs got a road win against the Clinton LumberKings, 17-2, in Game 2 of the Round 2. Lind was 5 for 5 with a double, 4 singles, and a walk, while scoring 3 times and driving in 2 for the Cubs, who now lead the best-of-7 series, 2 games to 0.

South Bend relied on the bat of Greg Smith to get the win. The right fielder ripped a bases-clearing triple in the top of the seventh inning to put the Cubs ahead, 13-0. For the game, Smith had 1 double and 1 triple in 5 at-bats.

"That was brutal," said losing manager Clay Buchholz. "The sooner we can turn the page, the better."

Game 3 is scheduled for Monday at Stanley Coveleski Regional Stadium in South Bend.
