Pitching was the name of the game in a tight contest between the Tampa Bay Rays and the Washington Nationals. Tampa Bay won it, 1-0. Tampa Bay starter Kevin Murray was in command. Reliever Rocky Smith picked up the win. His record improves to 1-2. Ty Buttrey took the loss. With the win, the Rays have a record of 40-36.

Tampa Bay took advantage of an error in the bottom of the seventh inning. The game was tied, 0-0, when Osvaldo Leme hit a run-scoring single that was misplayed. It put the Rays in front, 1-0.

"This was a game where every at-bat, every pitch counted," said Leme.
