Washington Nationals starter José Alomar kept the Philadelphia Phillies hitters in check, leading his team to a comfortable 8-1 win. Alomar got the win, improving to 1-2. He gave up 4 hits and walked 5 over 5 innings. He allowed no runs. With the victory, the Nationals upped their record to 68-48.

Washington used a well-timed hit by Greg Bird to capture the win. The first baseman socked a 2-run double in the top of the fourth inning to put the Nationals ahead, 2-0. Though it was his only hit in 5 at-bats, it was important.

"José kept his poise and got the job done," said Washington manager Mark Grudzielanek. "He was outstanding."
