The Richmond Flying Squirrels got a superb performance from pitcher Manny Pérez, but the Altoona Curve still won the game, 3-2. Pérez threw 6.0 innings of 5-hit ball. Altoona reliever Bruno Dennis got the win, raising his record to 1-0. Robbie Sweet was tagged with the loss. The Curve raised their record to 4-0.

The game was at a stalemate until shortstop Bret Goslin came to bat in the bottom of the eighth. Facing Richmond pitcher Robbie Sweet, he hit a 1-1 splitter for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting Altoona on top, 3-2.

Afterward, Richmond manager Mike Sarbaugh said: "We've hit a rough patch."
