The Akron RubberDucks picked up a win at Canal Park, knocking off the Reading Fightin Phils, 8-3. On the mound for Akron was right-hander Francellis Montas. He played a key role in the triumph. With the win, Akron has a record of 26-17. Reading falls to 19-25.

Ronnie Matthews had a big solo home run for the RubberDucks in the bottom of the fifth inning. With Akron leading 3-2 and the bases empty, he sized up a fastball from Ron Brooks, who is tied for 4th in the EL with a 10.4 K/9 rate, and punished it. The result was his 1st home run of the season, which put the RubberDucks on top, 4-2.

"We swung the bats good throughout the lineup," said Akron skipper Keith Johnson.
