Drooping Phillies Lose 6th Straight
Baseball fans saw a good contest between the Tampa Bay Rays and Philadelphia Phillies.

Tampa Bay catcher Kevin Plawecki helped his team beat the Philadelphia Phillies, 6-4. Plawecki, who finished 5th in the AL in wins above replacement with 6.1 in 2016, went 3 for 4 for the Rays. Trent Szkutnik notched the win in relief. The left-hander allowed no runs on 1 hit in 1.2 innings. His record now sits at 1-0. Joe Montgomery, credited with the save, is now 42 for 45 in save opportunities.

Plawecki had a game-changing home run in the top of the eighth. On a 2-2 fastball from Ethan Fleming, he banged a 2-run home run to left, giving the Rays a 5-4 lead. It was the 2nd home run of the year for Plawecki.

"Been a rough stretch for us," said Philadelphia manager Chaz Frank.

The triumph puts Tampa Bay at 84-76 for the season.
