In a low-scoring tilt between the Charlotte Knights and the Gwinnett Firebirds, 27-year old left-handed pitcher Chris Phillips was the difference-maker. The Charlotte left-hander spearheaded the 3-2 win. Charlotte is now 16-22, while Gwinnett is 22-16.
It could have been a different outcome for Charlotte, had it not been for Jake Peter, the 32-year old third baseman . Peter contributed a run-scoring single in the top of the seventh inning to put Charlotte up, 3-0.
In postgame remarks, Phillips hailed his team's "single-minded focus."
