IL News: Playoffs begin

Playoff baseball generates a reaction in every fan. To the fan of the perennial loser, it's a time to moan again about their team's misfortune. To the fan whose club defines success by the number of Round 2 championship trophies lining their clubhouse walls, anything short of the ultimate victory is a disaster. This is playoff baseball. Baseball lovers can't help but be consumed by it in some way or another. There is nothing better than playoff baseball. These Round 1 battles will unfold later today:
Norfolk Tides vs Gwinnett Firebirds and Columbus Clippers vs Lehigh Valley IronPigs.

Breaking IL News: Regular Season ends

International League just concluded the regular season -- and the playoffs -- the real season -- are slated to begin soon. The playoffs separate the men from the boys -- there are no weak sisters in the playoffs. Only the best clubs qualify. You have to play your best to survive. And when it's all over, you can be proud to be proclaimed the Round 2 winner.

South Division Won: Gwinnett Crowned

The celebrations were on in full force in the Gwinnett Firebirds clubhouse today as the team clinched the South Division title for the 4th time.
Starting Pitcher Joe Byrd said the team "expected the result and put in the work to get it."
"Teams in the International League should be sitting up and taking notice about us now I'd say," he said of the club and its 86-55 record.
Gwinnett will be vying for its 3rd International League championship once playoffs get underway.
