Boyer Selected IL's Best Pitcher

Following one of the brightest stretches in his career, the International League awarded Lehigh Valley reliever Ron Boyer July's Pitcher of the Month trophy.
He was mesmerizing as he held opponents to a .183 batting average and put together a 2-1 mark, 11 saves, 19 strikeouts and a 2.12 ERA during his 17 innings of work.
Boyer has 23 saves in 43 relief appearances this season with a 3-4 mark and 3.12 ERA. In 43.1 innings he has 43 strikeouts and 27 walks. Other clubs are hitting .239 against him.

Martínez Earns July's Top Batter Prize in IL

Alfredo Martínez made his presence known as one of the best young stars in the International League this past month.
The Toledo Mud Hens third baseman shined through the month of July and has won the Batter of the Month award.
The 24-year-old hit .383 with 5 home runs, 14 RBIs and 11 runs scored.
This season, Martínez has hit 16 home runs and posted a .230 batting average.

Kimball's Condition Worse, Suffers Another Setback

Spike Kimball's return to the Toledo Mud Hens has been delayed. The 24-year-old starting pitcher has been in treatment for a sore back and was responding well until he suffered sharp pains during a light workout. Upon examination by team doctors they reported that there had been further damage and Kimball will not be back as originally diagnosed. He will now be out at least one week.
In 22 starts this season, Kimball has compiled a 11-3 record and a 2.34 ERA.
