Loss to Hammers Extends Norfolk Losing Streak
|
The 2026 season is getting uglier for Norfolk.
Getting an impressive start from Gilberto Valéncia, Gwinnett beat Norfolk by the score of 9-1. Valéncia, now 1-5, was the winner. In 7.1 innings, he gave up 5 hits, while striking out 4, walking 2, and allowing 1 run.
The Hammers got a big hit from right fielder Desi Godfrey. Facing Norfolk pitcher Iván Quintana in the bottom of the fifth, Godfrey pounded a 3-run home run to right. His 4th home run of the season put the Hammers ahead, 8-0.
"They just got us," said Norfolk manager Charlie Poe, "and that's all I can say."
Norfolk has now lost 7 consecutive games.
