The inspired effort of Gwinnett second baseman Ed French was not enough to prevent a loss, 7-3, to the Norfolk Tides. French went 3-3 with 3 singles and a walk. The loss makes Gwinnett 19-22.

Norfolk used a clutch at-bat from José Martínez to capture the win. The second baseman hammered a grand slam home run in the top of the fifth inning to put the Tides ahead, 6-3. It was his lone hit in 5 at-bats, but it was a humdinger.

"I liked the focus, I liked the effort," said Tides manager Charlie Poe.
