Firebirds 2-1 Winners Over Norfolk
|
In a low-scoring game between the Gwinnett Firebirds and the Norfolk Tides, pitcher Doug Carey was masterful on the mound. The Gwinnett right-hander spearheaded his team's 2-1 win. Gilberto Valéncia was credited with the save for Gwinnett, his 2nd of the season. The Firebirds improved their record to 38-23 with the win over Norfolk.
Jesús Bermúdez delivered a big hit for Gwinnett. The designated hitter drilled a 2-run home run in the top of the seventh inning to put the Firebirds ahead, 2-1. It was his only hit, but it was a beauty.
Bermúdez said his team "played with focus."
