The Reading Fightin Phils spoiled a good performance by Portland third baseman Nelson Martínez, bumping off Portland, 8-5, at FirstEnergy Stadium. Martínez was 2-5 with a home run and a double. He scored 2 runs and drove in 4. Alex Broden earned the win to go to 3-0. He allowed 5 runs on 6 hits, with 4 walks and 6 strikeouts in 6 innings of work. Earning his 3rd save of the year was Daniel Brunt.

Chris Bailey had a big 2-run double for the Fightin Phils in the bottom of the first inning. With Reading leading 1-0 and runners on 2nd and 3rd, he got a slider from Raúl Lópes, who leads the EL in wins with 6, and swatted a double to center. It was his 5th double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Fightin Phils ahead, 3-0.

"Some of the guys in here work hard, some of the guys just kind of fall out of bed and get it done. Whatever works I guess, we won this one," Bailey told the Reading Daily.
