Fans of the Pawtucket Red Sox who packed the stands for the home opener were rewarded with a Pawtucket win over the visiting Buffalo Bisons, 5-1. Jim Jones started for the home team against Ernie Ramírez. Jim Jones earned accolades for his performance. Jones, now 1-0, was the winner. In 6.1 innings, he gave up 4 hits, while striking out 4, walking 2, and allowing no runs.
Álex Silva drew 1 walk, while adding 2 RBI for Pawtucket. The 26-year old first baseman had a key at-bat in the bottom of the fourth. With no one out and the bases loaded, he broke a 0-0 tie with a run-scoring walk off Ernie Ramírez. It was his 1st walk of the season.
Pawtucket manager Wes Timmons commended his team for "banging out a nice win."
