Thanks in large part to third baseman Raúl Gómez, the Memphis Redbirds beat the Omaha Storm Chasers, 8-2. Gómez went 3 for 3 with a triple, 2 singles, and a walk. He drove in 3 runs. Tony Juaneza got the win, improving to 1-0. He worked 6.1 innings, giving up 2 runs on 7 hits, while striking out 3 and walking 4. Memphis has a record of 1-2.

With Memphis leading 3-0 in the bottom of the second, Gómez hit a 2-run single off Omaha hurler Rob Armstrong. It was the 3rd hit of the season for Gómez and put his team ahead, 5-0.
