Sky Sox Use Late Score to Top Rainiers, 5-4
|
The Colorado Springs Sky Sox defeated the Tacoma Rainiers, 5-4, in part because of center fielder Lonnie Hoover. Hoover was 3 for 4 with 3 singles and a walk for the Sky Sox. Colorado Springs pitcher Cedric Young got the win, upping his record to 1-1. António Martínez got the loss. Colorado Springs is now 3-2.
Up to bat in the bottom of the ninth, 25-year old right fielder Mike Stokes had a chance to be the hero. Tacoma pitcher António Martínez wanted to foil that plan. But with two outs, Stokes drew a walk, driving in 1 run. The Sky Sox had themselves a thrilling win.
"Nice to see our side come away with the win," Stokes said after the game.
