The Norfolk Tides got a magnificent effort from pitcher Dan Thompson, who kept Gwinnett hitters in check en route to a 3-1 Tides win at Harbor Park. Norfolk reliever Juan Águila picked up the win, raising his record to 1-0. Kevin Kirby was tagged with the loss. Nelson Castillo recorded his 1st save for Norfolk.

Norfolk took a 3-1 lead on Wally Clark's 1st home run of the season. The 3-run home run, which Clark hit in the bottom of the seventh, left Gwinnett pitcher Kevin Kirby visibly frustrated.

"I'm just trying to make good contact," said Clark, "one at-bat at a time."

The victory makes Norfolk 2-0.
