The El Paso Chihuahuas and Memphis Redbirds riveted fans at AutoZone Park.

The El Paso Chihuahuas could not turn a fine performance from pitcher Mayky Perez into a win. Instead, the Memphis Redbirds prevailed, 5-4. Perez threw 6.0 innings of shutout ball. Oscar Berg, 1-1, earned the win in relief. He allowed 1 run on 5 hits in 3.1 innings. Julius Cooper was called on to finish, recording his 4th save.

A defensive lapse proved costly in the contest. In the bottom of the eighth, with the game tied, António Flores was at the plate when Memphis scored 1 on an error. The miscue enabled the Redbirds to go in front, 5-4.

"Ah," said Flores in a jubilant clubhouse, "the sweet smell of victory!."

Memphis has now won 3 straight, while the Chihuahuas have lost 3 in a row.
