The Salt Lake Bees defeated the Nashville Sounds, 5-2, in part because of third baseman Ken Smith. Smith went 3 for 4 with 3 singles and a walk, while scoring 2 for the Bees. Reliever José Zamora picked up the win. His record improves to 1-0. Austin Nicely, who is tied for 5th in the AC in holds with 2, took the loss. Tommy Watson notched his 15th save of the season.
Joe McDonald came through with a big-time hit for Salt Lake. The right fielder smacked a 2-run home run in the top of the eighth inning to give his team the lead, 3-1. It was his only hit, but it was clutch.
"We did enough to win," said McDonald.
The defeat makes Nashville 21-20.
