The El Paso Chihuahuas downed the Tacoma Rainiers, 2-1, at . Stellar pitching by Joe Owens had a lot to do with it. The left-hander handcuffed his opponent all game. Don Scott, who is tied for 9th in the PC in saves with 5, nailed down the save. El Paso raised its record to 38-23 with the win.

Steve Eggert, who is tied for 3rd in the PC with a .418 on-base percentage, took Tacoma hurler Billy Campbell deep in the bottom of the eighth. His solo home run put the Chihuahuas on top, 2-1. In all, Eggert had 1 single in addition to the home run, while going 2 for 3.

"Throwing strikes was the main thing," Owens said.
