Curve Defeat Flying Squirrels in 10
Crowds lined up early in front of People's Natural Gas Field, eagerly awaiting the start of the 2025 Eastern League season. On the mound was Ernesto Varela for the visiting Richmond Flying Squirrels and Jud Clayton for the hometown Altoona Curve. In a spirited contest, the Curve pulled out the win, defeating the Flying Squirrels by the score of 3-2. Especially impressive was Ernesto Varela. Altoona reliever Danny O'Heir picked up the win, upping his record to 1-0. Ron Smith was saddled with the loss.

The Curve got a clutch hit from center fielder Jorge Tavárez. In the bottom of the tenth, he delivered a run-scoring single to win the game for the Curve.

"I like how we battled to the end," said Tavárez.
