The Omaha Storm Chasers locked up a win at Werner Park, knocking off the Iowa Cubs, 6-4. On the mound for Omaha was right-hander Thom Mercer. He played a major role in the triumph. Mercer, now 5-8, was the winner. In 7 innings, he gave up 8 hits, while striking out 4, walking 0, and allowing 3 runs. With the win, Omaha has a record of 61-63. Iowa falls to 53-71.

The Cubs had been locked in a 3-3 tie with the Storm Chasers going into the bottom of the sixth inning. That changed quickly when the 23-year old left fielder Ken Hodge came to the plate. Hodge hit a run-scoring double on a 0-2 slider from Iowa hurler Virgil Peterson. It was Hodge's 14th double of the year.
