Tacoma starter Robbie Jones pitched effectively against the Salt Lake Bees at Cheney Stadium. The right-hander led his team to a win, 5-4. Randy Gordon, now 2-0, picked up the win in relief. He allowed no runs on no hits in 3 innings. The Rainiers improved their record to 59-66 by beating Salt Lake.

The Rainiers got a clutch hit from center fielder Juan Báez. In the bottom of the tenth, he delivered a run-scoring single to win the game for the Rainiers.

"We had the game right there for the taking," said Salt Lake manager Tom Prince. "But we decided not to take it."
