The Durham Bulls got a superb performance from pitcher Greg Strong, but the Charlotte Knights still won the game, 5-3. Strong threw 6.0 innings of shutout ball. Ed McDermott was credited with the save. He has now successfully converted 3 of 4 save opportunities. The Knights improved their record to 42-41 with the win over Durham.
Tony Smith provided a timely hit. The Charlotte right fielder delivered a 2-run triple in the top of the ninth inning to put the Knights on top, 4-3. It was his only hit in the game, but he made it count.
Smith attributed the win to his team's "determination."
