Hammers Prevail, 6-4, Over Charlotte
|
The home crowd had a good time watching the Charlotte Knights and Gwinnett Hammers get after it.
In the 6-4 Gwinnett win over Charlotte, the impact of Desi Godfrey was substantial. Godfrey, who is tied for 9th in the IL in home runs with 10, went 4 for 4 with a triple, 3 singles, and was hit by a pitch. He drove in 3 runs. The winning pitcher was 25-year old right-handed pitcher Jeff Reid. He tossed 112 pitches over 7 innings, allowing 3 runs on 9 hits. Ed Ford recorded the save. In save chances, he's now 20 for 25.
Godfrey had a key at-bat for Gwinnett in the bottom of the second. With the bases loaded, he hit a bases-clearing triple. It was his 2nd triple of the season and gave Gwinnett an early 4-1 lead.
"There's so many different ways you can win a game," said winning manager Ron Warner.
Gwinnett is now 48-61. Charlotte is 53-56.
