Ibarra, Firebirds March to 7-2 Victory
|
Jesús Ibarra knocked in 4 runs to help Gwinnett beat Scranton WB, 7-2. The first baseman collected 1 single, 1 double, and 1 home run. Gilberto Valéncia, the winning pitcher, improved to 1-0. He pitched 9 innings, giving up 4 hits and 2 runs, while striking out 5 and walking 3. The RailRiders are now 8-13 this season.
With Gwinnett leading 3-0 in the bottom of the fourth, Ibarra hit a slider from Chris Bryant for a 3-run home run. It was his 6th home run of the season and put the Firebirds ahead, 6-0.
Ibarra said, "Whether you hit the ball hard, you walk, you have a long at-bat, 10 or 12 pitches, or you hit a homer, you're just trying to do anything you can do to help the team win."
