Firebirds Win with Late Rally
|
The Gwinnett Firebirds picked up a win at Coolray Field, knocking off the Syracuse Chiefs, 3-2, in 14 innings. Starting pitcher Oscar Willis played a key role in the triumph. Reliever Lachlan Wells picked up the win. His record improves to 3-6. Alejandro Viloria, who is tied for 9th in the IL in holds with 6, took the loss. Gwinnett raised its record to 75-47 with the win.
The clutch at-bat came in the bottom of the 14th inning, when Gwinnett right fielder Artie Bailey, facing Al Adams, had a run-scoring sacrifice fly. It gave the Firebirds the 3-2 win.
"I was just taking it batter by batter, just enjoying the moment," said Willis.
