Peña Swings Arrows to 6-3 Win
|
Thanks in large part to center fielder Tony Peña, the Indianapolis Arrows beat the Columbus Clippers, 6-3. Peña was 3 for 4 with a home run and a double. He scored 2 times and drove in 4. The winning pitcher was Jeff Gordon. His record now stands at 2-3. The right-hander went 8 innings, allowing 3 runs on 3 hits for the Arrows. Jesús Vásquez nailed down the save.
With Indianapolis trailing 3-1 in the bottom of the third, Peña hit a fastball from Ron Reinert for a 3-run home run. It was his 1st home run of the season and put the Arrows ahead, 4-3.
"Solid performance from our side," said Arrows manager Walt Wilhelms.
Indianapolis, now 5-21, is off to a slow start.
