Rutherford Hits 2 home runs in Flying Squirrels Win
Spirited fans greeted the Reading Fightin Phils for their clash with the Richmond Flying Squirrels.

Hugh Rutherford was a major factor in the 8-1 Richmond win over Reading. The Flying Squirrels designated hitter hit 2 home runs, while scoring 3 runs and driving in 3. Pat Bryant earned the win. Kevin Rodgers, who is tied for 4th in the EL in innings pitched with 89.0, took the loss for Reading.

Richmond used a clutch at-bat from Ron Thomason to capture the win. The first baseman hammered a 3-run home run in the top of the second inning to put the Flying Squirrels ahead, 3-0. It was his lone hit in 3 at-bats, but it was a humdinger.

"We were able to put some runs on the board," said Thomason after the game.

With the win, the Flying Squirrels sit at 34-34.
