Rock Cats Win Squeaker, 2-1, Over RubberDucks
|
New Britain turned a good performance from starting pitcher Jesús Luna into a 2-1 triumph over the Akron RubberDucks at New Britain Stadium. New Britain reliever Brad Mason got the win, raising his record to 1-0. José Fierro was tagged with the loss. Kel Clark earned the save for New Britain, his 17th of the year.
New Britain took a 2-1 lead on Dave Hogan's 14th double of the season. The run-scoring double, which Hogan hit in the bottom of the eighth, left Akron pitcher Walt Ashley visibly frustrated.
Afterward, Rock Cats manager Gary Kendall was ebullient. "That was a fun game to coach," he told a group of reporters, adding, "I hope it was just as fun to watch."
With the win, New Britain raised its record to 38-30.
