The rain made it unbearable at times; nonetheless, the faithful who endured the elements enjoyed themselves.

Richmond registered a win at Senator Thomas J. Dodd Memorial Stadium by beating the Akron RubberDucks, 3-1. Pitcher Joe Barker was one reason why the Flying Squirrels triumphed. In 7 innings, Barker surrendered 5 hits, while striking out 5 and walking 4. He allowed 1 run. Pete Bryan was credited with the save, his 25th in 26 tries.

Richmond took a 3-1 lead on Edmund Richards's 16th double of the season. The 2-run double, which Richards hit in the bottom of the seventh, left Akron pitcher Rodolfo Villasmil visibly frustrated.

"Tough loss," said Akron manager Keith Johnson. "But we'll learn from it."

Richmond raised its record to 59-46 with the win.
