The 2026 season did not get off to quite the start the Chattanooga Lookouts had hoped, with an opening day loss to the Jackson Generals at AT&T Field. The final score was 2-1. Starting Pitcher Jimmy Smith was the top performer for Jackson. In 6.1 innings, Smith surrendered 7 hits, while striking out 2 and walking 5. He allowed 1 run.

Jackson used a well-timed hit by Samuel Borel to capture the win. The first baseman socked a 2-run double in the top of the first inning to put the Generals ahead, 2-0. Though it was his only hit in 5 at-bats, it was important.

"We came out on the wrong end of this one," said Chattanooga skipper Mike Johns.
