The rain came, as predicted, but the ACL Mariners and ACL Diamondbacks were able to complete their ballgame.

The ACL Mariners powered past the ACL Diamondbacks, 9-5, at Peoria Sports Complex. Tim Welch provided some of the pop. He was 4-5 with 2 doubles, 2 singles, and a walk, while scoring 2 runs. José Ochoa, 1-1, earned the win in relief. He allowed 1 run on 3 hits in 2 innings.

A defensive lapse proved costly in the contest. In the bottom of the seventh, with the game tied, Gilberto Camarada was at the plate when ACL scored 2 on an error. The miscue enabled the Mariners to go in front, 6-4.

Welch said afterward that his team has grown over the course of the season, adding: "It feels good when a plan comes together."

The triumph puts ACL at 11-7 for the season.
